The individualized fitness training takes place in a private studio that was formerly Medlen's 2-car garage.

We don't need a big gym to accomplish great things.

Medlen's style of training uses equipment but few machines. For example, we use a pull-up bar, dip station, treadmill, rowing machine, resistance bands, dumbbells, barbells, medicine balls, and TRX suspension straps (this is not an exhaustive list).

Training with less emphasis on machines is preferred because:

  • stabilizer and neutralizer muscles are worked along with the prime movers

  • the vital core muscles are worked along with the prime movers

  • a wider range of motion is permitted (vs with many strength machines) to improve flexibility and strength simultaneously

  • exercises are functional (i.e., closer to real-world movement) compared to those with machines
  • most exercises constitute compound movements (i.e., require multiple muscles and joints working together)

  • grip stamina, balance, and coordination are also trained
